TRN is committed to ensuring the highest quality of service delivery from the EMDR therapists who respond to mass traumas in Great Britain. To achieve this, we rigorously evaluate the efficacy of EMDR for mass trauma events.
Rather than accepting EMDR on trust, we have built into practice pre and post-EMDR standardised evaluation measures to assess the reductions in PTSD, depression, anxiety, and dissociation following EMDR. In addition, we assess the positive changes in posttraumatic growth and resilience. We also administer follow-up measures to ensure progress has been maintained over time.

Our team of researchers is led by Professor Ian Barron, University of Massachusetts.
We are currently running three studies:
TRN Current Research - Observational Framework for EMDR Therapy Video Analysis
The TRN observational framework provides a structured approach for analyzing recorded EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy sessions through the lens of the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model. It supports clinicians, trainers, researchers, and students in identifying key therapeutic processes, client responses, and therapist interventions during EMDR treatment.
The framework is divided into two complementary perspectives: A. Therapist Observational Framework and B. Client Observational Framework. Together, these frameworks provide a comprehensive method for evaluating EMDR therapy sessions, enhancing understanding of AIP theory in practice, and supporting clinical supervision, training, research, and quality assurance.
Results of our video analysis case study which evaluates the validity and efficacy our framework is expected by the end of 2026.
